Rooftop HVAC & RTU crane lifts

Old unit off, new unit on the curb, your crew goes straight to the hookup. Most of our work is this.

401 Express crane lifting a new rooftop HVAC unit onto a plaza roof in Toronto while the old RTU sits on the flatbed

Rooftop HVAC lifts

The crane truck mechanical contractors call for RTU swaps

A rooftop unit replacement has two problems that have nothing to do with HVAC: getting the old unit down and getting the new one up. We solve both in one visit. The new RTU rides to site on our flatbed, we lift the old one off and set it on the deck, then set the new one on the curb so your installers can start on the gas, electrical and ductwork.

With 65 ft of reach we can set units on most one- and two-storey commercial roofs from the parking lot: plazas, warehouses, schools, restaurants, light industrial. Air handlers, condensers, make-up air units, exhaust fans and split systems all go up the same way. We've done it for HVAC companies across the GTA, including the one that wrote our first review.

If you're an HVAC contractor who's been scheduling a separate crane company for every swap, this is the call that gets rid of that step.

  • RTU removal and replacement in one visit
  • Condensers, air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust fans
  • Old unit hauled away on the same truck
  • 65 ft reach covers most plaza and warehouse roofs
  • Certificate of insurance available for the property manager

Questions we get

Rooftop & HVAC Lifts: the common questions

Can you lift an RTU onto a two-storey roof? +
Usually, yes. 65 ft of reach is enough for most two-storey commercial buildings if we can park reasonably close. The limiting factor is the horizontal distance from the truck to the curb, not the height. Send a photo and we'll confirm.
Do you take the old unit away? +
Yes. It comes down onto the flatbed and leaves with us. If you'd rather keep it on site for your own disposal, we can set it down wherever you want it.
How long does an RTU swap take? +
The lifting part is typically an hour or two per unit once we're set up. Your crew handles the disconnect and reconnect; we're there for the pick.
Do you work with HVAC companies on a regular basis? +
Yes. Several mechanical contractors use us for all their rooftop work. If you have a run of swaps coming up, tell us the dates and we'll work around your schedule.
